How to Use a Gentle Leader Head Collar on Your Dog

If we are in public outdoor spaces, you will likely see Ruger our Bullmastiff wearing a Petsafe Gentle Leader head collar. Ruger has an incredible amount of strength, and while this doesn’t substitute continuous dog training, we use it for the extra control it provides.

Not only has Ruger been charged after on two separate occasions by unleashed dogs in our neighborhood, she’s also been targeted for being a big dog. A person walking past our property had the nerve to tell us that she would spray Ruger with pepper spray if I didn’t have Ruger under control. We were standing on our own property, and Ruger was still a puppy and she was leashed up. That’s when I learned that not everyone will think Ruger is a sweetheart.

If you’re concerned that your dog is going to hurt their throat from pulling so hard, we’d recommend at least testing it out. My husband was an immediate supporter once we found the proper head collar. There are different brands available like the Halti, but the Petsafe Gentle Leader is the one that fits our Bullmastiff properly and doesn’t allow her to wiggle out of it.

If you have ever wondered how to put on a Gentle Leader head collar, or if your dog will be able to eat or drink with it on, then watch here:

Avoiding the High Cost of Dog Dental Work

Who brushes their dog’s teeth?

It is a question Brindle-n-Fawn has been posing to our community of pooch parents. According to Petco, 60% of owners fail to brush their dog’s teeth regularly. In fact, the majority of people surveyed said they never clean their dog’s teeth…which can lead to extraordinarily high costs for dog dental work.

Uh oh! Clearly, there is a need for some education on the matter of canine oral health.

Not to worry, though. Brindle-n-Fawn is here to help. We will get your dog’s teeth in tiptop shape with our dog toothpaste and dog toothbrush kit.

What happens when you don’t brush a dog’s teeth?

Oral hygiene doesn’t just affect humans; it’s a dog issue too and one of the most common reasons for expensive dental work. Using a dog toothbrush is necessary to avoid:

  • Plaque buildup
  • Tooth decay
  • Inflammation
  • Mouth infections
  • Poor oral health
  • Pain from periodontal (gum) disease

Not to mention, stinky doggy breath! Eww.

By the age of two, nearly 80% of dogs develop periodontal disease in some form. That’s why you need to use a natural dog toothpaste and toothbrush kit, like Brindle- n-Fawn’s bestseller here. Made with freshly dried mint, parsley, organic turmeric, and baking soda and available in beef, coconut, or chicken flavors, your dog’s mouth is sure to drool (and their tail wag!)How much does dog dental work cost? Now, the real issue: what kind of veterinary bill can you expect for neglecting a dog’s teeth?

Sorry to say, it will likely be high. Pawlicy Advisor puts cleaning costs at between $300 – $700. This can include: a physical examination, x-ray, tartar removal, polish, and anesthesia. Need to have a rotten tooth pulled? Extraction surgery can also cost hundreds of dollars.

Who knew little teeth could carry such a big price tag?

Natural dog toothpaste can help

To avoid such hefty financial burdens, practice good canine oral hygiene. All you need is a dog toothbrush and toothpaste made specifically for pups to get started.

Remember, prevention is your friend!

Benefits of Paw Salve and Nose Balm for Dogs

When it comes to our dogs, only the best will do.

This belief is what drives us here at Brindle-n-Fawn. We aim to provide fur parents with a line of natural personal care products for both humans and their pups!

Let’s have a closer look at how to keep dog noses and paws in tiptop shape!

What makes Brindle-n-Fawn artisan dog care products so special?

Did you know?

Dogs pick up nearly twice the amount of toxic chemicals when compared to people. Their bodies absorb toxins through harmful foods, chews, toys, plastics, shampoos, household cleaners…the list goes on.

That’s why our company decided to focus on natural ingredients in our paw salves and nose balms. Now more than ever, dog owners demand high-quality products that are safe to use. Luckily, we feel the same way.

Our paw salves, paw butter bars, and paw cleaners are all:

  • Handcrafted in small batches
  • Formulated with carefully selected ingredients
  • Organic whenever possible
  • Locally sourced

In fact, Brindle-n-Fawn salves contain beeswax from Reed’s Bees in Arcata.

Everything is 100% dog-friendly (and good for people, too). No toxic chemicals. Zero artificial fillers. So, you can rest easy knowing your pooch is getting only the finest natural ingredients that will not damage their health.

For dogs, that means:

  • A longer lifespan
  • Better immunity
  • Reduced risk of skin irritation / allergies / side effects
  • Access to plant-derived medicinal properties
  • Faster healing
  • Enhanced quality of life

Product Highlight: Calendula Hemp Salve

12 tins of our dog paw salves
Our salves are made with local beeswax from Reed’s Bees in Arcata

Cracked paws? Dry snout?

Try our calendula-infused salve. Each tin contains beeswax, mango butter, hemp seed oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, vitamin E, and of course the healing powers of calendula safflower oil.

In the hot weather, dog noses can crack and get sunburnt. And just like for humans, this is uncomfortable. So, it’s important to hydrate and moisturize the skin to encourage healings. Similarly, cold weather has the potential to damage paw pads. Though dog paws are tough, they still require care. Prevent injury and soothe sensitive toes with a natural salve.

From our kitchen to your home

You can find us at local fairs and pop-ups. We also have a selection of our products at the Humboldt Hometown Store in Ferndale, California. We are delighted to bring our amazing benefits to the canine community.
