Women in Business Award 2021

In March 2021, I received a call from the late Donna Wright, former CEO & President of the Eureka Chamber of Commerce, letting me know that I was being awarded the Women in Business Award by the Soroptomist International of Humboldt Bay. I was just starting the process of launching a gourmet dog bakery, so I feel extremely lucky to have been awarded this grant that provided me with recognition from the City of Eureka, County of Humboldt, U.S. House of Representatives, and U.S. Senate.

However, California regulations do not allow dog treats to be produced in a home kitchen under a cottage food license. The rent for a commercial kitchen, high insurance requirements, fees for multiple licenses, and perishability and safety concerns proved to be a terrible idea for a small startup business. So, I closed our gourmet dog bakery in early 2022.

However, I did not want to let down those who supported me from the very beginning. Instead of giving up, I transitioned to making dog care products and continued to add to my product line with dog bandanas, dog ties, and rustic signs with dog quotes. You can view our products at our online boutique and catch up with us on our YouTube channel.
